!!
I am going to the US to buy a second hand acrylic tank and am hoping to get some advice as to the best way to move it a fairly long distance without damage.

It is an 8' tank and will be going in the back of a half ton. What type of paper wrap should I use that won't scratch the tank? Also, if 18" is hanging off the back tailgate but supported by plywood is there any chance of warping or damage?

Appreciate any advice you guys can offer on moving a large acrylic tank 600KM's!!!

I would pad the bottom of the truck with styro insulation panels (the pink kind you can get at Home Depot). I wouldn't worry much more about structural damage. Scratching would be my chief concern. I'd probably wrap the tank with plastic or paper (doesn't really matter what kind as long as it it securely in place) and cover that with 1/4" to 1/2" styro panels. You could tape the panels securely in place by completely encircling the tank with packaging tape.

When I moved my 8ft acrylic tank I put it in the bet of the truck, strapped it down with nylon ratchet straps, and drove away.

I wasn't too concerned with scratching it, but if yours is a pretty tank I'd at least wrap it in a few old blankets.

I know this might not be an option to you but I rented a U-Haul when I went to get my 720 gallon.. No worries about tying it down and it was lower than trying to put it in my Silverado.

i believe theres a chance of warping if u drop the tank or not enough center support...i moved my 8ft tank with just 4 ppl including myself and i have slight warpage on the corner top right side. im not sure what type of material it was but it was some sort of light greyish/clear plastic wrapping

The tank is only 18 months old and has minimal scratching so thats not an option.

blankets and straps will be enough to keep it from getting scratched. I didn't get any additional scratches on mine and I just strapped it into a metal bed. I'm sure the bottom of it got some damage, but I can't see it.

wrapt the tank with saran wrap/plastic wrap/the stuff you use to cover food... it sticks and does not move..
the moving/rubbing is what causes scratches.. id stay away from paper against the tank just due to the wind in the back of the truck.. same goes for blankets against the tank...
blankets/cardboard to wrap the tank AFTER the plastic would be great protection against rocks/birds/sand/ect

That's exactly what I'm going to do. Saran wrap then blankets then straps.
