Im moving this coming weekend and need some advice.

I have a 48G Tank with 8 African Ciclids (Largest 3inches) I am moving approx 45mins away and need some suggestions. I have a few options from local fish shop guys.

Option 1- Buy a 20GTank\filter\heater from Walmart and setup 4 day prior to move at new location. Add existing filter media and approx 5G tank water into 20G.
Day of move: Just relocate fish into a water cooler and make the drive over to transfer to 20G Staging Tank. I plan on setting up 20G tank with alot of hiding places so the temporary environment will not shock them.

This also gives me time to setup my current 48G Setup correctly with sand\lava rocks and tons of hiding places. 20G Staging tank will house the ciclids for about a week.

Option 2: Keep 20G Staging Tank and transport my ciclids in seperate bags and store in padded insulated box.

If anybody has some suggestion please let me know and please remember this move is only 30-45mins.

i would just put the fish in a cooler, move your tank, set it up and put the fish in the tank. you should also acclimate the fish to the new water if it has different perameters. i have done this many times and never lost a fish.

I would but the movers will not move the tank with any water in it, I was attempting to retain atleast 25%. Do you think moving my ciclids from a 48G to 20G would cause any problems?

Another reason why I'm not setting tank is because I want to move from gravel to sand and setup more hiding spots. My current setup sucks.

no i dont, you should be fine using the 20 for a stager as long as you have many places to hide, your fish will do the whole pecking order again, but other then that, you should be fine
