So the girly and I just bought our first house, and we have about a month before the closing date. :)

We have five freshwater tanks and the only thing keeping us from being esctatic about packing up the apartment is the realization that we have to actually break down our tanks, catch all the fish, bag them all, transport them and get the tanks up and running for them before they croak.

We're going to do it a tank at a time, of course, but what other advice do you have for me? We're going to be dealing with a new cities water in addition to transporting hundreds of fish (some of them very large - Black Arowana, African Arowana) and others very small (Bumblebee Gobies).

If anyone has done this before, please give me some tips. If there is a thread for moving to a new location already, please direct me accordingly.

I've moved a bunch of tanks before nothing bigger than a 150g though. I tried to bring as much tank water as I can, preferably half then top it off with the new water make sure you don't clean out the filter or substrate

i moved a 125 , i used them plastic walmart tubs think the where 40 gallon filled 3 of them added the fish to one and the rocks and plastic plant to another and put a battery operated air pump in with fish and hauled tail ....

done this many times successfully what you want to do is
get dividers and combine some of your fish into other tanks

break down tank saving an ice cooler or container with established water
filter should be transported with this water and remain wet

upon arrival setup should begin asap so that the tank can begin to cycle with new and old water

add primer to tank and let cycle for 24 hours at which time you should check water peramiters and possibly add some feeder goldfish to help with cycling if the feeders are still alive after another 24 to 48 hours and all your water test check out your good to start transporting fish i use an ice cooler for big fish

then just repeat for your other tanks this way no unnecessary stress besides being cramped for a few days is put on your fish

I did this with a 95 gal and a pond of Koi. Great cheap way to house them while you move a couple tanks. If cost is not a problem or your arrows are too big you can pick up a cattle watering tank at a local farm and feed store for them for pretty cheap.
