Hey all, so I'm almost done with my pond build (keyword almost lol) of which the fish in my 180, and 150 gal tanks (minus the rtcxtsn) will live in. And I wanted some feedback so that I do this right the first time without any dead fish!

So heres the thing-the pond I'm building is at my house, and both the 180 and 150 are at my parents house (just got the place over the winter and didn't want to move them cause of them cold weather-now its getting warmer...)...how can I do this most effectively?

Should I:
1. wait for the pond to cycle? then add fish...
2. drain the water-and gravel, and add it to the pond...then add fish
or
3. list your idea if you have one!!!

I'm all ears guys and want to hear what you think!!!
Thanks in advance!

john

start to do 30-50 percent water changes on the tanks and save the tank water in 45 gallon rubbermaid or transport that water to your house and dump it into the pound. depending on the pond size i would fill half of the pond with tank water that i have changed weekly/every 3days or so. then cycle the pond. for a week or so. next to transport fish i would use the rubbermaids/plastic bags to line them. to transport the fish. after transporting the fish i then would prob ask a couple of friends to help me load and unload the fish tanks from destination A---->B. all set! easy as cake, just remember to take the vertical edges of the tanks with towels to protect from chipping and stuff like that! goodluck! hopefully we can see some pics of your completed pond!

This is my suggestion: once the pond if finished, test fill about 30% with tap water and leave it alone for a day or two. Don't worry about the water from the 180/150, too much trouble to transfer it to your house for very minimal benefit. If no leaks, then add 20% more water, this whole time have a power head or filter going to remove the chlorine. Once it's 50% filled, then proceed to the next paragraph.

Get 50% of the filter media from the 180 and 150 and add 50% new media so that the old BB will grow into the new media. BBs multiply fast. Just have lots of mech and bio media. Do you plan to DIY a wet/dry, I strongly suggest it. Once the water is able to flow through the filter, you should be good to go in 1 week, 2 weeks tops! I did this and put a 27" ID shark into my pond in a week or so.

dam meako, that quick! yeah i was following your "ghetto" pond lol came out very nice! sad to hear about the arowana, sorry for your loss...thanks for the suggestions and yes, i am going to be building a sump in the very near future-waiting for the parts to arrive!

thanks redtailking!
