i'm interested in buying a 6'x30"x21" used tank. i could borrow my friends pickup truck and a couple of guys to help me carry it. what do i need to do? do i need extra styrofoam or padding or something like that? also the glass is 1/2" thick, could we carry it on its side? there are many squeezes before it could get to my room. any tips or things i should be concerned about? thanks in advance

I said this same thing to some one else the other day. But the way that i have moved lot of large tanks that has allways worked for me. Is put a peice of ply wood in the bed of a truck should slide in there perfect and not move. Place a blanket or something else soft on top of the ply wood. Place the tank in centered on top of all of that. Get a few peices of scrap wood. And put one peice in the middle of the glass on both ends of the tank, and one on both the left and right side of both front and back pannels. And screw those peices to the ply wood sheet so the tank cannot move. Hope that makes sence. I have done this with a couple different 240's and a 360 and never had a problem. Im sure every one on here has there own way. This is my o.c.d way that i do

I have read on here that many use glass carriers (suction cup handles that stick to the glass) when moving large tanks. I moved my 150 with a neighbor kid. It about killed us lol. I think the suction cup handles and a couple more guys to help out would have been a huge help.

By the way, I wouldn't intentionally carry it on it's side. The bottom is the strongest part of the tank and it's best to carry it bottom side down.

Good luck!

nice, i think i could get some of those!
thing is, the hallway leading to my room is pretty tight. the tank is not gonna pass through the door strait up. thats why it has to go in on its side. thats my main concern right now. is it gonna break or somethin if we carry it on its side?

Only put it on its side if it is a must.

Howdy,

It's not that heavy. 4 guys are able to carry it. Get roller boards. And pizza. Lots of pizza.

thanks for the input guys!
yes it has to go on its side coz it won't fit going in straight. it's only 21" tall so it'll be a lot less bulky on its side..
i don't get the pizza thing? do you mean pizza boxes? sorry noob here...

You can buy those section cups at glass cages here is the link for them. http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=57 They are not cheap by any means.
