how do you guys move your large fish ? like something around 9 or 10" and one thats 12" ?? just some rubbermaid containers ? if so how big is needed ? and are they water proof ? im thinking about a 2.5hrs in the truck in containers and they need to have seperate conatiners

i was thinking something like this ? http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/sterili...maid&startSearch=&fromSearchBox=true&addFacet=

would something that size be to big ? or not enough or just good enough ? and do i need to have holes in the top in order for air to get in there ? dont want water splashing all over inside my tank, which has happened before lol

edit: well that model isnt sold in my local store lol, but im talking size wise tho, would it be sufficient enough or what else should i look at ?

I transport fish all the time in rubbermaid or sterlite tubs. Same principle as shipping fish. Fast them for a day or two beforehand to minimize fouling the water during transit. I use lids to minimize splashing and to keep fish from jumping out. The containers I use have small air holes in the handles.

40 gal rubbermaid totes... use them for storage of fishstuff when not useing to transfer the fish. the hardest part is getting them into it!

Just be prepared to lose a fish. We just moved and my 10 inch female kraussi just went nuts from stress and I lost her. I used big sterilite containers, plenty of aerators, but sometimes fish will spook. It's definitely part of the game, even though it sucks. Every other fish was just fine including my rays, 2 ft black aro and 4, 7 to 10 inch cichla.

Well these are fish I'm buying and bringing home... I've brought a 8" bgk home on a 2-2.5hr run before and he was good to go.... All tho he was able to fit in a large ziplock bag lol

Also prolly better to get a dark coloured container rather then see through for less stress being in all black wouldn't it ? And I never use water that I travelled with incase of anything in it (which happend before I lost all 3 fish)

And is a air pump really nessacary ? Or am I able ti just drill some hole in the lid say like 8 - 1/8" or smaller around the perimetre of the lid ? (4corners and then w centred on eachside)

Use a cooker or Rubbermaid totes with lid and line it with black plastic bag ( to minimize stress) then after fish is in put the airline from a battery operated pump in and loosely tie the bag on top to avoid splashing of water through the travel. Would only put one fish per container for aggressive fish that size.
