Moving fish from oklahoma to ...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes it can be done.

I drove fish from Texas to Indy and they had been in the tanks all night and I didn't take them out for another day and they were fine.

First don't feed them for 2or3 days and them buy some of the battery opperated bubblers and use them and you should be fine.

Another option is to bag them and top off the bag with oxygen, You can rent a small tank from a weld supply shop.

Do several water changes to get thier water very clean and free of organics, don't feed them for 2 days before the move. Put them in fish bags with about 50 / 50 water oxygen and put them in styros you can get from your local aquarium shop. They will be ok for 24 hours easily.

THis is basically how fish from the other side of the world get to us alive. They are in bags longer than 24 hours many times and make it ok.

I brought all my fish back from Washington state to Nebraska no problems. I had a car converter and used a couple air pumps. Works great. Be sure to put stress coat in the water though, helps nuetralize any ammonia...plus relaxs the fish. Its not that bad really. I actually just came from Nebraska to Texas wit some fish, its doable. BTW...what time are you going? You should stop by and see me in Nebraska....if you take Interstate 80 I'm right along the way! ;)

Really it is my Friend, he is in oklahoma for thanksgiving and he was gana look at a LFS there and try to bring them back. Some things we can't get in cali :naughty:

Ditto on the styrofoam tank. I think tempurature would be your main concern. I drove across 2 provinces staying overnight at a friends. My oscar stayed in a cooler without airpumps. When I was at my friends I added a heater and airpump for the night. I never had any problems. Total time out of tank was about 34 hrs.

Make sure that the fish your friend picks up are good and healthy.

wow, that's a long trip, I don't even know what to tell you. Most I've ever went was a coule hours. Had power go out a couple of months for like 4 days, most of the tanks went without air that whole time.
