Hi all, looks like my relationship with the missus is over and I moved from Birmingham to Lincoln to be with her and now one of my options is to move back to Birmingham.

The fish I have kept from months up to two years have always been in the hard water of Lincoln so would moving to Birmingham where the water is much softer be too much of a shock for them? What issues could I face?

Also I was planning on moving the fish in very large buckets I can get from work but they could be in there for a good few hours. Is there anything I can do to keep the water oxygenated whilst in transit?

<------- The fish are the ones in my setup.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on how much of a difference in hardness. They sell battery operated pumps you can use to get oxygen in the water for fish in buckets.

I moved from very soft water to very hard water and didn't have a single problem with any of my africans.

I am sorry to here about you and your misses, to transport the fish in buckets you can get battery operated air pumps at wal mart in the fishing ssection ... ussually around the catfishing stuff then pick up some air stones and good to go I would have some xtra water made up so that way you hat way you can scoop out some fo the old water everyonce inawhile lace it with fresh , is how I did it the last time I transported hope this helps .... depending on the size of the fih it might be better to go get some big rubbermade totes to trans port bigger and they are not to expensive .

p.s I am not sure how you feel about staying in teh same town as your ex .. I know when me and my first wife seperated I did not want to be in the same town I did not want to run into her at all so I moved ... hope this helps some

I only moved here to be with her so I would be out of here like a shot if we didn't have a 2 year old daughter.

I have had the Oscars for about 5 months from the size they were in my avatar, now they are approx 7 inches so the buckets I have should be big enough. I think I will have to use both buckets I have for the fish because the Oscars like to bite the scales off the Silver Dollars when i'm doing water changes and the SD's try to hide with the O's. They never learn!

Sorry to hear about you split, never a good thing to go through.
Just make sure you transport them in more than enough water, and acclimate them very slowly. I use the drip method and and slow it down quite a bit for more delicate fish. But your fish are the more hardier types. So as long as your water quality is good to start with you should be just fine.
