My Wife and I are considering a move to Canada in the next 12 months-Vancouver Island or British Columbia specifically-and though we are researching as much as we can I'd like to kow the thoughts from any Canadians on the site. We plan to go for at least 2 years (rent our house in UK) but if it all turned out well then apply for residency. We've had enough of the UK and want to move with the kids.

Is the cost of living high (i realise it can vary from province to province)? Is Schooling and education standards good?

We intend to go for a 3 week or so holiday soon to get an idea and not just to do the tourist attractions. I work as a Physiotherapist and my Wife a Nurse and we've been told work won't be an issue that much.

I'd just like an honest opinion from some normal Canucks and not a bunch of people sat in an office in the UK or on online.

Any pointers greatly appreciated ;)

Cheers Rob

well if i were you consider Toronto
ull love it
nurses are in high demand in TO
plus we have amazing LFSs :D

Thanks for the reply :). I'm the only fishkeeper in the house (I managed to put a tank in my boys rooms for 'their educaton' if you know what I mean) and my Wife doesn't care for LFS!

We'vre really got our heart set on BC and I've been told the Winters are slightly milder than other parts

In British Columbia---it would depend on your lifestyle-as well as your standards-yuppy wise.....its probably one of the worst countries to pick from (if you have the world to pick). But for a quiet stable life, family centered, its definitely one of the best places to live. Quiet, calm, people are friendly and well boring hehe.

Standard of living would depend on you as well. Rent would range from 1200-2500 per month depending on the location and size. The big mac meal here is around 5 dollars canadian (economists use this as the basis of standards of living (ppp). So you can pretty much gauge how much it would cost to live here.

Schooling is so/so here, it is free :D College and University wise, if you had the option, go ivy league. The local UBC is meh, it will get them a 35k job annually, but asfaik, graduates of this college, alot end up in starbucks and mcdonalds (Ofcourse, my basis of this is only through seeing friend's-children/friend and alot of factors could be in play).

There is 1 upside though, BC has probably the BEST chinese food in NA, if not the world :D
