In the UK, with us being on an island, coastal erosion is a real concern in some areas. Over the decades not just houses have succumbed to the sea, but whole villages. There's little home owners can do. They can't sell their house to fund a move, because nobody will buy them. And they can't rely on insurance money to pay out when their house collapses, because insurance companies won't touch them with a barge pole.

I did a bit of research and stumbled upon this extraordinary video from Norway. Your house falling into the sea is one thing, but check this out....

I like the coast …….. for holidays………… I think leeds is just about as far as I can get inland on this little island to be safe from exactly that sort of thing.

Well, being a Man Utd fan, if Leeds suddenly slipped into the sea, especially the Elland Road bit, I think it would be quite funny, lol.

However, although the east coast is under constant barrage from the North sea and is crumbling away at a fair old rate, it will be a good while yet before it gets to Leeds.....or Wakefield!!!!

This is one of those things thats so tragic yet profound and beautiful in that way that tragedy sometimes romanticizes things...imo of course, im sure the homeowners just think it sucks big time.

We're still waiting for southern california to fall into the sea over here. Buy some dirt-cheap land in the mojave desert now for a chance to own a beautiful beachfront plot on arizona bay one day in the future.

After watching the video entirely i have to comment on the structural integrity of that white house. Its just floating around out there! Cheers to the carpenter, or rather "Skol!"

California has to be one of the most sought after places to live in the whole of the US. Beautiful place with fantastic year round climate......and yet at the same time it is a ticking time bomb!

Yeah I feel for them right now.

It has always been thus. The prodigious natural beauty of the state has been formed by constant, violent seismic activity and widespread drought and fires over millions of years and they still want to cry and complain when their gaudy, "contemporary" styled mansion that they bulldozed part of an ancient forest to build burns up. But i digress.
