Moving Monster Fish

Hey everybody,

I was lying in bed thinkin abt my snakehead and how big it will grow and what not. And I thought about moving it. Currently its still a juvi so its pretty easy but i'm thinkin about when it gets 2 to 3 feet. How the hell do you move something like that. It must put a lot of stress on them. Can anyone contribute any stories of moving a monster fish or techniques on how?

What I do now is simply take a clear garbage bag, get it inside the tank and trap the fish in it, simply take out the bag and move it to wherever. This is the easiest way for me.
 
Thanks for the input. Thats pretty much like using a HUGE net. I'm interested in hearing stories of people who move two foot red lines.

I have tried big fishing nets in the past but it never worked out well and caused all kinds of damage to the fish. I was moving a full grown Giant Gourami and almost took both of its eyes out with that method, plus the amount of water splashing was crazy too.

How do you lift it if with water still in it?

Isnt it really heavy?

That is what I experienced when I tryed it.

I have also tryed pillow slips, almost worked :swear: I ended up getting my aro out in a milkcrate (not sure if you know what it is) its a bit rough on the fish but it worked.

The fish probably would have done just as much damage if I kept trying with the other methods. It was smashing everywhere....
 
I've used pillow cases and T-shirts. The Tshirt only works when they are being moved from the "tub" to the tank though. I've had good luck with pillow cases and garbage bags.
A garbage bag is what i used to catch the tig so it wouldnt do any damage.
 
i would use the garbge bag idae....

how big is it right now?
 
I have a huge net for fishing works good and for tranporting i use a very large cooler keeps the temp stable i have this coming in my future plan on moving to the other side of canada
 
I don't know about actually catching the fish, but be sure to invest in some power inverters for your car if you're planning a long trip. That way you can supply some oxygen and some heat for the fish.
