By the Beach!
Sunday I'm moving my SALs tank just curious what is the best way to transport him? He is about 18" right now. I was thinking of getting one of those styrofoam coolers to put him in but I'm open to any other suggestions! Btw the drive should be anywhere from 3 to 5+ hours, all depending on how LA treats me :nilly: Thanks!

I moved my African lung in a box with wet towels lol. Easiest fish ever to transport.

i agree. i read an article once where a professor took his lungfish away with him to teach school kids. he was away for two days at a time! :headbang2

Really! That is kinda crazy but makes sense. Did you worry about temp dropping? Its not crazy cold here in Socal but still in the 50s to 60s and dropping to there from 80 kinda scares me a bit. If you dont mind giving me more of a detailed description of the box move. Thanks!

Details...well, I was taking it to educational animal shows mostly...I put an inch of water in a plastic bin, caught the lungfish, then soaked a towel with tank water and dropped it over top. If you're worried about temp use a cooler. For moving my big SAL, I just put enough water in to keep him submerged. It'll be fine lol.

When my SAL was a bit smaller (~14-16 inches or so) I used one of those live bait pails to move him cross country. I got the bucket at a sporting good store, and it's the kind that has a latching lid with holes but not holes in the bottom. It has also a convenient carrying handle, so when I was stopping for lunch or dinner, I could take my lungfish inside with me so he wouldn't overheat in the car (we were moving during the summer).

Rubbermaids... put a little water.. insert fish... do as you please. +1 to easiest fish to transport.
