I recently purchased a 65 gallon (4x1.5x.15) as a grow out tank for my wild caught azul. Ive had him for a month in a 20 gallon, and hes been in his new home for 3 days now. He was always skidish and scared of everything, being wild caught this is normal but hes still not adjusting very well. He only eats live, and am hoping with this bigger home he will slowly become brave enough to eat his minnows right as i drop them so I can get him onto other food. He is 6 inches. My orino I have been keeping in my 180 is a solid 8.5-9 inches. He has been growing slower than my temensis, mono, and kelberi, and though he is a very aggressive fish himself, he has been getting picked on for about 2 months. His pectoral and pelvic fins are always torn, and the middle spot of one of his sides is getting really ugly from the bass charging at him. He eats everything. I am debating on moving him temporarily from the 180 to the 65.

Pros:

It will give the orino a chance to heal up and get pretty again, as well as maybe catch up in size if I feed him more there.

It may socialize the azul who is in there by himself

It may help teach the azul how to eat stuff like floating pellets.

I can feed my other bass a little less to inhibit the growth a tad bit.

I will be able to introduce both the azul and the orino at the same time once the azul gets big enough.

Cons:

The orino is very aggressive and may totally stop any progress made in getting the azul to adjust to captivity, if not hurt him physically.

Going from a bigger to a smaller tank may stress the orino and inhibit its growth, therefore introducing him back to the bass in the 180 could do worse for him considering they are used to him now, but maybe would be worse after reintroducing the smaller fish.

Overall stress to the orino being moved to a smaller tank.

The orino may turn to only live since that is all the azul eats.

What do you guys think? The orino isn't getting picked on that badly, I mean he is but nothing he can't handle, hes still growing and is tough. The stress the azul is exhbiting is the more pressing concern, so I'm really thinking more about his benefit. At the same time, I don't wanna hurt the orino either. What's your opinion?

You can for a little bit but make sure you have lots of air flow and filtration. I would keep him in there as little as possible
