Okay, I just closed on my new house Thursday the 1 of may, and I just got my 220 filled last night where I intend to put my 75g tank of pbass. My problem is I have to be out of my apartment at the end of the month. I'll probably move out sooner than that. Ergo I don't have time to let my 220 cycle. Would it be okay if I use all the filtering equipment off my 75 on the 220 and move my bass sooner? Both tanks are bare bottom, I have 2 ac 110's on the 75 and I'm going to run a fx5 on the 220 in addition to the ac110 until I get the wet-dry built. Does this sound okay considering time is not on my side? Thanks for any input

whenever time is not on my side I drop my fishes off at a fish store and have them hold it for me until my tanks are ready.

but if that is not an option (not all stores will do that) using the filtration from the 75 will help, you could also take the biomedia from the fx5 and put it in the 75 to help seed it

just move the bass into the 220,and move all the filters onto the 220.
it should be fine...
make sure the water params are about the same on both tanks.
add extra filters onto the 220 to let those cycle as well.

id seed the new media by using it in the ac110 and have some of the media already in there and run it in the fx5
also id do water changes on the 75 three times a week and have that water go into the new tank as the "new water" for water changes for awhile so that the ammonia can build up and have the cycle go by a lil faster

I'm hoping to avoid a cycle entirely by using seeded filter medias. I'll just use both AC 110's on the 220 for at least a month and a half. That should give time for the FX5 to grow some bacteria on it's bio-rings. Once the wet/dry is done I'll toss the AC 110 bio-rings in the FX5 and then start the wet/dry and lose the HOB filters and run the wet/dry and the FX5. I will definitely step up the water changes because their current tank has driftwood which of course naturally drives the pH down. I also plan on acclimating them for an extended period of time.
I can't wait to see them in the 220! I know they're ready for an upgrade, my Pinima is really cranky anymore.

When I moved from my 90 gallon to my 170 I had just a fluval 405 on the 90 gallon. I just took the 405 and hooked it up to the 170 without doing anything to it. I added an fx5 at the same time. I kept a close eye on water conditions and I didnt even have a mini cycle. I have done this method several times and not had a problem.

Good to know, I gotta wait for the tank to heat up. Right now I've got a 400w and 100w heater on it which I'm thinking still won't be able to heat it up to 83F, so I'm gonna pick up another 400w heater. Hopefully I can maybe move my fish this weekend :naughty:

congrats on the home! I won't be of any help on this topic though. good luck!

Thanks! It has a pretty good basement/fish room but it's soooo unlevel. It took an hour and a half to properly level my 220, lots of shimming unfortunately. I dread the thought of my 8' 240 next but it must be done in the name of Cichla! Hopefully the tank will be heated up in the next couple days, I'm thinking with only 500W of heat I might need to turn the heaters on max. to get it up to temp.
