im moving my baby senegal into a 20. the tanks set up and is cycling with a goldfish in it but the water is cloudy as hell! it's been like that for about 2 days now and i added stuff to take care of it but it hasn't helped. any tips?
plus how should i actually move him? he's quite a jumper.

P.S. what's with the references to jaws? upper jaws/lower jaws? i don't get it.

what color is the water? if its green=algea spike. upper jaw species have their upper jaws longer then the lower jaw. lower jaw their lower jaw is either longer or same length. (btw your senagal is upper jaw)

senegals have upper jaws like an over bite, and bichirs like lap, endli have a lower jaw like an under bite. and ur tank might have to much load and it jus crapped out. do a water change and remove all but like 2 gold fish.

Upper Jaw Species-Upper jaw protrudes past lower jaw
Lower Jaw Species-Lower protrudes past upper jaw
to move it I generally drain the tank as low as i can they are easier to catch in 2 dimension rather than three
Use a net you could use a plastic bag or tupperware container I advise against using your hands the finlets on the back are quite effective weapons-Anne

i only have one TINY gf in there. it's kinda milky white.the thing is i did a water change in my 70 and it's turning that way too so i think i may just be my water.i'll do a couple of water changes. could it have been that i didn't wash the sand well enough? i thought that the water was running clear but i could have been wrong.

ps i like the upper jaws better, i guess. i've seen some of the lowers (i now figure) and they just look weird. lol

weird? lol. lower jaw species are the larger ones out of the bichirs and have the most pattern. to each his own tho. good luck with the move.

like just the head look weird. they have an air of...imbred to them (uppers). i just think that (up close, which i what i talking about) the lowers have it.
but any way, he was in a relativley unplanted tank before (and still, i don't wan to move him untill the water's normal) how would he do with heavily planted space. i'm going to put my ctenopoma in with him. does anyone know how big they get. i was told about 6"

It'll probably enjoy the heck out of the plants -Anne

the ctenopoma will get about 8 in. in the wild but only about 6 in the aquaria(i think) and i think the bichir and ctenopoma will get crowded in the 20gal. are you going to use the 20gal. as a grow out tank for the bichir and ctenopoma and then put them in the 70gal.? i think that is what you should do cause i also like bichirs and ctenpomas. and when i got into bichirs i also thought lower jaws were as ugly as anything but youll grow into them trust me . how are you treating the water before you put it in your tanks?

i was going to put them in the 70 as long as my oscar doesn't think they are food.
i just use a dechlorinator and let the water sit for a while. i don't use RO/DI or anything ($$$) is there something else i should be doing?
