Hey forum

I have a yellow bellied slider female, seven years old and around 13 inches in length. She has been kept in her tank since I bought her back as a baby turtle. Recently I acquired a tank from a friend which is much larger in size and would suit her nicely as she has grown over the years.

My first question is how do I clean the tank properly, the tank housed three turtles which died of a respitory infection. I have removed all sponges and the other filter pieces from the external canister and have bought new ones.
All gravel has been chucked too. Is there anything I should use to disinfect the tank so I can be sure I won't infect my turtle?

Second question: What is the best way to move my turtle from one tank to another without causing too much distress. She doesn't get handled very often. Once the new tank has been filled and settles down is it just a case of lifting her out of one and putting her straight into the next?

Thanks

Matt

1) Bleach water solution. Spray it in, scrub it, let it sit. Then rinse with water. Then rinse with water again. And finally...rinse again lol. Don't use gravel in turtle tanks. Makes it too messy.

2) Pick her up, put her in the water, enjoy. LOL

Just put her in the new tank. Most turtles adapt really fast to their new home.
