So you may know that my 55 gall. got problems. (fungus, ick :irked: ). I believe the worst is over and everything has begun to back down thanks to all the help given from you guys ;) . I would like to know if the plastic plants in my 55 need any special attention because I want to move them over to my new 150 and I dont want the fungus/ick to carry over to my new clean tank...

Also, when would be a good time to move my fish (of course after the new tank has cycled...) after they show no signs of disease or put them in right away, or a few weeks after not showing signs?

As a precaution, you want to wait at least 4 weeks or more after the signs of the illness is gone to begin transfering/adding fish.

As for the plastic plants, if you want to be cautious, boil them prior to the move.

the water may contain dormant parasites (such as ich).

there's no need to reuse any tank water, considering beneficial bacterias are not waterborne so there's no difference between your tank water and treated sink water.

all fresh water caries the ick bacteria. it generally shows itself on stressed out fish. its easy to treat if thats the only problem. you raise the h20 temp to about 84 or 86 degrees for 24 hrs add some potassium permaganate @ a dose of 2mg/l then bring the water temp back down to its normal range slowly for 24 hrs and repeat 1 more time after doing at least a 50% water change. i've used this method several times in my community 55 gal. it worked like a charm.

Dunk them in a boiling pot of water a couple times for a few seconds each time.

you actually want to wait till the disease IS TOAST!

wait till the signs are gone and you may jsut have dormant pathogens, add the stress of moving and WHALA! you jsut screwed your other fish in the tank!
