MY LITTLE WORLD

I'm moving the 17th and I'm dreading how to handle this without killing anything.

First of all, I have a turtle, a GATF and a small clown pleco.

I have a new tank at the new apartment, but it's not setup and it won't be cycled by the 17th.

So what I'm thinking is just pack up the Emperor filters and put the bio-wheels (along with the sand) into a bucket with water from my current tank. I bought two battery powered air pumps that will oxygenate the water during the move.

Then I just bag up the GATF and pleco into a fish bag... and put the turtle in a small container.

How does all that sound? You think the new tank will cycle quickly without killing the fishes?

The transport of the fish sounds good. But, I would try to take as much of the water as you can for a quicker cycle. The filter with the BB+50% of old water= 50% water change in new tank in the new apartment. Well, that's how I see it.

I think it sounds good and should work fine. Just make sure you bag the pleco well they can poke holes in bags easy.

Keep your BB wet and make the move quickly and all should be well.

agreed with everyone. take as much old water from the tank with you and set them up first. Ive moved 3 times in the last year and its a pain. But thats what i do. Milk gallon jugs help out alot. its only a gallon but its alot easier carrying 30 gallon buckets.

I'm not sure how much water I can haul, I think 5 to 10 gallons is the most I can do...

I'm moving everything on that day because I hired a moving company, and they're making a stop at my girlfriend's (we're moving in together) before I can set the tank up at the new place.

Now that I think about it, this is going to be pretty tough...

I would mainly focus on keeping the bio media wet and then setting up the filter and have it running asap in the new place. I wouldn't worry about hauling water from the old tank. I am almost positive it has been shown that relative to beneficial bio in media there isn't much present in the water column. Good luck on your move. I have moved three times with a pretty good amount of medium to largish fish and have never lost one in the move. Preparation is the key.

from literature online and in books i concur w unknowuza13 most of beneficial bacteria in media not water column.

as an extra precaution don't feed too much and monitor ammonia daily for 1st week or two to see what happens.

it also might help to not feed the fish for a day or two before the move, to help keep the ammonia levels down in the bag. the turtle should be fine either way
