well after xmas i am going to be buying another tank and i am going to be setting it up and putting it on a double stand. the tank that i currently have set up will be going on the stand as well its a 75 gallon tank.. would i be able to move the tank with the fish in it? i was thinking of draining about half of the water and them moving it and placing it on the new stand? it wont be getting moved very far. just from my room to my closet?

anyone have any ideas or suggestions about this idea?

My suggestion would be to drain all of the water before moving the tank it its heavy enough as it is when empty. Bag the fish or put them in buckets for a short while then introduce them back into the tank.

You can easily put too much pressure on the seams and start a leak by moving a tank with water in it...Also a half full 75 probably weighs 300 pounds. I'd drain it

put the fish in a great big bucket with an airpump. if you got alot of fish and no buckets, i have had to clean out the bath tub really good and use it to hold fish before. i wouldnt reccommend it because the possibility of soap being in the eater but any big bucket will do. just make sure its really clean.

Rubbermaid containers. Put your tank water in them while you move the 75. I would suggest taking all of the water except about 5". When you and someone else go to pick it up the water will slosh everywhere so the less in there the better. Thats how I moved from house to house. I would put the fish in buckets or containers until you get the tank moved. You might can leave more water in it but makes it harder to move and more dangerous. Each gallon weighs about 8 lbs. plus the weight of your tank, gravel, decor. Help ya any?;):)

ill do the buckets and bag idea..

do i run any risk with taking all of the water out? like looseing bateria and such?

half of the fish will be getting transfered to the new tank. so it makes sense to take them all out to move the tank.
