I know I have seen threads on this but i cant seem to find any. I have to move my 75 gallon tank (has 6 red bellied piranha in it) to a town about 40 minutes from my house. I have a spare 55 gallon that i could use as a temporary tank. Would the 55 work until I set up the 75 or is there a better way to do this?

;) you could set up the 55 gal and drain the 75 gal. move the fish to the 55. move your 75 gal and set it up in your new place. go back and get the fish and move them to the 75 gal, then go back and take down your 55 gal and move it to your new place. this reminds me of one of those riddles or puzzles about carrying a chicken, fox and some other animal to the other side of the road, but only having room to carry one at a time. good luck.

i just did the same with my 58 gallon i bought 6-5 gallon buckets and lids at home depot filled with tank water distributed the fish and filter media throughout them and mad the move and refilled with tank water and new water went real smooth much easier than setting up two tanks

I recently moved from North Carolina to Michigan...

I drained my tanks... put the sand, decor, fish and water in Rubbermaid tubs... Loaded everything into a Penske and was on my way...

When I arrived in Michigan I set up the tanks, added sand, decor and filtration...

Acclimated fish via drip method... then added fish...

Monitored ammonia/nitrite for a few days and water changed as needed to ensure bacteria was established...

You could set up the 55 gal at one location, transfer the fish into it, move the 75 gal, then go back for the 55 gal... But in my opinion your just making more work for yourself (setting up the 55 gal)...

I just did the same thing this weekend for my 75. Had the fish in 3 buckets, had 3 for decor. soon as i got to new place, unloaded decor, and started to fill up the 75.

to be honest, setting up the 55 is just going to be extra work that you dont really need to do.
