not sure how to catch him he is only 15",but i know he will freak.how do you guys do it? any help would be great he is my first aro and i think he would be on the floor if i go after him.

go to walmart and pick up an actual fishing net in the fishing and hunting section. I'd remove most of the tank lids (if not all) and very carfully and slowely lower the net into the tank. slowely turn the net to about a 45 degree angle and wait. arowanas like to move, so it wont take long till he moves in position to net him out. yea, he'll get excited when this happens but he shouldn't end up on the floor. They aren't that fast that you can't snag him before he freaks out. try and get him on the first try. Once you bag him, put him in a box and close the lid so he doesn't see what's going on after that. That will keep him a little calmer. Brian (OSPY)

Big net or depending on the size of him, you can submerge a bucket or bag in the tank and coax him in. Either way, he'll probably freak so just be ready for a flopping aro. If he hits the floor, some people have used a wet towel to grab it and get it to the moving container. I just moved a 22" aro with no problems with a large net. Scooped him up and dumped him in one motion, then covered the tub hastily, haha.

No Nets they will damage your fish. Use large clear thick plastic bags double them up and roll the top down a couple times. You can get these bags for your lfs. The Idea is to slowly submerge the bag and fill it with water wait a little bit for the fish to get use to it then slowly move the opening towards the fish, taking your time as you get close the fish will swim into the bag as an escape route. It's easier than it sound and works very well I have never damaged any of my aro's with this technique.

Good Luck.

Agreed. This is the method most lfs in the east use when it comes to aros.

I like using 3 black garbage bags, rolled down like he said. I make a "cave" in one end of the tank, swim him into it, wah lah! I add air to fill the extra spece in the bag so it acts as a protective bladder, the fish wont splash back and forth. I transfer the bags with Aro immediately into a 22 gal tote just in case! Good luck.

I would use yard bags rather than garbage bags since most contain anti bacterial materials to reduce odours. Placing the bag In a cooler for tranport works well for maintaining temp.

good luck.

If the move is going to take more than an hour, I would transport the fish in a cooler and use a battery powered airpump to keep the oxygen level up.

I use a large fishing net that has a rubber net so it does not harm the fish or the slime coat.. mine has a extendable handle that extends to 8'(nice for the big pond) i aksi havw ab assortment of nets that i use of all sizes but its the rubber one for the big guys.. I also use rubbermaids they wirk great coolers work just as well.. make sure to fast (dont feed him) for a few days before the move if he is gonna be in the container very long this will keep him from dirtying the water as fast...
