Moving there and planning on getting one.

Was wondering about what they need in the begginging for a tank. ( With in a year I plan on having a small pond out back To put him in )

When I had tortoise I put him in a Plastic contriner for clothes About 4 feet Across about 2 feet.
Would this work for the first year keeping him in one? Its about 7 Inches high.
Of course I will have heater and all that good stuff.
As also going to make a small basking platform to put in the middle of it as well.

I hear Snappers dont need to deep of water and perffer being able to stick there head out.
Was going to make a nice Inside Swamp for him.

If anyone can throw me any ideas would be great. Im just not looking to have a Glass Tank so huge I need a stand for it.

Or does anyone know where I can make a custom tank Thats wide but not as tall would be great

All I hear is crickets chirping lol, someone should be able to help you here, I have not kept them myself but others here do and surly will chime in for you. How big are they as babies? I imagine a long tank with very good lighting and filtration. You know I really gotta go because if others see me in an aquatic turtle thread Im going to get flamed big time.......

I have a yearling and I keep him in a 40 Gal Breeder for now until he gets big enough for the pond, personally i keep mine in over 14 inches of water with lots of climbing structures and keep it stocked with feeder fish and guppies. I also feel 7 inches isn't tall enough, AST's are good climbers and can easily climb out of something that short IMO.
