Hi Guys,

I am planning to shift my 2' Arowana after a couple of months.

If any of you can share your experiences, it would be of great help.

The place where I will be shifting my aquarium is around 2 hours drive.

I am worried as to how to shift him with minimum stress.

One more worrying factor is to kick start the tank again immediately.

Ideally I will be filling the tank immediately with conditioned water to introduce the fish in the tank.

But in worst circumstances I might have to wait for a day or two to do the same.

Is it possible to keep the fish in the travel container till then or I have to make some other arrangements for that.

Thanks,

Shiv.

Well I've never moved a huge aro but as for extablishing the tank: Run HOBs with established media on your transport container then run those on your tank when you get it set up again?

Good advice! I would'nt leave a 2' Arowana in a travel container for a couple days I would try to get the tank set up ASAP! I recently moved and thats what I did although my Aro wasnt 2 feet (yet):D

Also try using a Koi net when you remove him form the tank, there made of pretty delicate material and at least mine didnt have alot of uneeded stress

Thanks guys,

Will keep that in mind.

I am having a big plastic bag which is about 3.5' in diameter and I will be using that to fetch the arowana.

I have used this technique before and is very good as the fish just swims into it on its own without anyone even touching it.

i moved 2 plecos over a two day span... they where not 2 feet (only about 6 inches each)... but i put them into a plastic bag inside a styrofoam container...i left the bag untied, just put the lid on top of it to hold the bag down against the edges. i used a battery powered bubbler (one of the emergency bubblers unplugged) and also a submersible filter plugged into a 12v/120v car inverter.

they did not get food or anything, just a couple of bag buddies

they made the trip just fine

If you can run a sponge filter on the tank the Aro is in now and get it well established... run that sponge filter with the battery powered aerator in the travel bin and the water quality will stay good a little longer.

Do you have a travel bin planned out yet?

I have used a regular camping cooler to move 18" fish several times. They hold temperature nice, are sturdy enough to move a few around a little bit when full of water and hold about 35-45 gallons.
