I'm gonna be moving back home soon.
It's a 4 hour ride and i'll have to transport my juvenile silver arowana, my fly river turtle and my juvenile bichirs back home too... and into their brand new 4ft tank....

Any suggestions for the move????
Need all the advice i can get......
don't want any catastrophes occuring on the way back home...

Oh yeah, I can handle this one! I did it in the middle of the winter in a blizzard for 8 hrs and miles of 4x4- line a large tote (like rubbermaid) line at least the bottom, preferably the sides with thin styrofoam. Put a heat or cooling source (hot water bottles, ice packs) if heat is an issue in the bottom, no sharp edges. Line the tote with a triple thick set of black strong garbage bags, Fill with your tank water when your ready to go, put the animals in, run an air hose into the bag and poof the top full of air so the bag can be clamped at the top and turns in to a protective bladder. Get an adapter to run air through your car plug in. Keep the air going all the time or stop evewry 30 mins to an hour for refill air, I stopped at petco, called ahead at 9 pm, 2 hrs into the trip, and they checked everything quickly, he was fine. Use your same water, put it in containers so when you get there you can just fill up your aquarium with the normal water they've been in. I don't suggest blasting the stereo.
It's really easy. My only disaster was my poor pleco's bucket got in the wrong pile and ended up in the back of the truck and he froze to death-we followed 10 snowplows side by side it was so bad! I miss my pleco he couldn't swim, really, his name was spazzz.
Good Luck, I'm sure I have forgotten something.......

listen to her! hehe...
ive no experience on moving but i just want to say that i hope that NEW TANK u will be putting them in is CYCLED.

Ive never had to move fish, but I would say put them in a cooler w/ tank water, and run an air bubbler into it. They should be fine because the coooler will insulate the water!

maybe you can go to the frequently asked questions section, there's a thread there about transporting fishes....

I put them in a large styrofoam box lined with a black bag.

I also use battery powered air pumps.

I'd use the bag inside the cooler, then the air can be poofed out,and the air in the bag will make a protective bladder so he doesn't slosh around. Plus if you had a travel incident/accident, I see water and aro all over you car. Mine rode shotgun so I could babysit and watch him.

Did you move yet? If so, how did it go? and if you learned any lessons, share the tips please!! If not yet, may the force be with you.

I always fast fish for a day or two before a move. It keeps the water cleaner during the actual move and greatly reduces the stress that can amount on the fish.
