Alright I am moving by car at some point soonish maybe I have moved my
fish a few times but I am trying to figure out a better method of doing so.

I have 6 fish 2 are Koi one is about 9" the other a bit smaller 3 rather
small Cichlids atleast 2"+ or so and a Pleco about the size or smaller
than the smaller Koi..

My main Idea currently if we do move is get a 55 gallon trash can on
wheels if its small enough to fit in the back seat of the car belt it in
put some holes in the lid for tubes use an air pump and canister filter
through the top powered by an inverter that I have.

And I assume I will need to put the plants in some clear bags so that
they may get some needed light for the 3 days all the bigger stuff like
the tank might go into one of those little car trailers.

Also now that I think about it with a Pleco 3 days with 2 Koi in the dark
would I maybe have to do something special with the Pleco or would it
be too dark for anything to even happen..?

Not sure you'll be able to get a wheeled trash can vertical in the back seat. Might be better off picking up a wheeled cooler (something like this one). You can leave the top up to give them light, and do the inverter/air thing you mentioned.

Might consider housing the cichlids seperately. If they're only 2" then they'd be fine in a half filled 5 gallon bucket for a couple days. I'd probably change out some water in both containers each day and keep the air running until you can get the tanks back up.

Not sure on the Pleco/Koi relationship. Never had them together..

Edit: If they are going to be inside the car for 3 days, make sure to consider the temperature. Even on a cool day, the sun can heat up a sealed car fast and cook your fish. And careful brakeing too fast or you'll be taking a bath. :)

Actually now that I look at the fish and a tape it seems the smallest Cichlid
may be about 4" the Cichlid don't bother the Koi due to their size and the
Koi are peaceful to everyone else.

My last move I had a cheap cooler to move them and it could barely handle
the weight plus the top didn't seal right and the water started to slosh
rather easily ended up with some water here and there.

As far as fitting the trashcan I figured if needed I could possibly flip the back seat up or something the more water I can take the better I think less shock
on the fish during a rougher ride and more water back in the tank at destination doesn't need to be 50 gallons either. ;)

Not entirely sure if I am going to be moving that distance just yet but
I wanted to be prepared this time and was hoping for a smoother move
last time they were a bit smaller and I like to double check things. :nilly:
