I am moving soon, in the past when I have moved I used an old cooler and put the fish into there, one move lasted close to 36 hrs, I put a cycled HOB on the cooler, no problems. My problem is in the past I have have not had fish that are known for their delicacy or being stressed easily my current stock is a 75 gal with 6 discus all around 3 to 4 inches. I have heard about people sedating fish and am wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I will be moving about 200 miles, it will take me 6 to 8 hrs from the fish coming out of their current tank to them being able to go back in the tank with proper water parameters. Any information or advice would be appreciated.

If its only a 6-8 hour move then I would keep the fish calm by keeping them dark and quiet. You can either bag fish individually with oxygen or move in 20L buckets lined with black plastic bin liners (Glad bags?) & battery airpumps. The plastic liners will reduce bucket burn on eyes as well as keeping it dark. Some stress coat/guard or aloe additive will help. If bagging wth oxygen, use newspaper between 2 bags.

I do sedate large fish for transport but dont recommend you try this if youve no experience.
