Me and my bf taught his little brothers Oscar to ring a bell for food. Its really neat we would ring the bell and feed him, then soon enough s/he got the idea so now when it is hungry it will jump up and hit the bell, and if you dont go feed him, he will keep ringing the bell over and over.. I found it pretty amusing. Do you guys have any of your fish ever do this?

I know a guy who had a 15" Adonis pleco, and it would swim belly-up on the surface during feeding time to eat the floating pellets he fed to the other fish.

however it was likely doing this unusual behavior out of sheer hunger desperation, since the guy apparently didn't realize a potentially-4-foot pleco needs a great quantity of food in its diet.

Can you make a video or at least take a pic of the oscars ringing the bell?

If I get the chance I will, if not I'll get my bf's little bro to send me a pic of it, but if you look in my gallery thats the oscar that rings the bell =)

my managuense will take worm's off the cutting board if i hold it an inch or two from the water. half his body slap's on the board mouth wide open wigglin like cat with his ass on fire!!! my smaller oscar bump's the lip of his tank when hungury . did this all on his own freaky........ :screwy:  :nutkick:

I'd like to see it actually ringing it. What kind of bell and how does it ring it?

its a tiny bell we hooked up over the tank and it dangles, so when the oscar gets hungry he'll jump up out of the water and hit the bell with his face then back into the water he goes. I'll try and get pic's. We got the idea after this guy at lfs told us he did it with his oscar.

When I was 12-13 I taught my Oscars to jump out of the water and take food from my fingers. Whehn they got 12" it was alot tougher to do bevause they would sometimes engulf my fingers.
