Hey guys!
It's been awhile, but I'm back.. unfortunately with a different username. Since the server went down a few months back, I haven't been able to log into my account. It keeps saying "server error" as soon as I log in. Then I'm forced to log out or the pages don't load.. It's frustrating. So, I am hoping maybe my old account can be merged to my new one.. I would hate to lose my posts, and then people think I am new to the hobby. haha. So far there is a mod looking into it.
Well, I figure since I've been gone for so long that I'll post an update and let you all know what I've been up to..
The last time I was posting, I was kinda getting out of the hobby, making some life changes, and my 240 Ray/Frontosa tank wasn't working out...
So.. 240 update: The frontosa as of last week have all perished. They stopped dying off for about 2 weeks, and then just like that, the last 6 were dead. I also lost my ray pup in the tank.. Bought a new test kit, and all params were reading correct, I was diligent on water changes, as well as with feedings.. and I made sure not to over feed. The Datnoids, and venez pike however, were never affected. That left me to the large male, and large female motoro in the tank.. I sold the female, as I just wanted one ray.. he did fine for a month, and really came out of his shell, and Thanksgiving morning I woke up to him dead as well. No marks, no curling.. he looked alive, but wasn't. That left a 240 with 3 fish.
I have a 180, which was holding several bichirs, my male midas, jag, female RTM, and red terror.. well, my midas decided he no longer wanted tank mates.. he killed the jag, and then was fine.. then he beat the red terror so badly that he died while in QT, and so I separated the tank down the middle.. The Midas on one side, and my large w/c male apmhilo sagittae with my female RTM. Well, the RTM managed to get past the divider and in with the midas.. She got beat up pretty bad.. So, I moved her back to her side, extra secured the tank divider and everything was ok. She laid eggs that week, and the male amphilo Sag guarded them. Well, they ended up not being fertile. So, knowing I had the 240 empty, I made some changes.. I moved the RTM to a 30 gallon QT so she could heal up with no risks of the midas getting her. And I moved the male amphilo sag to the 240, along with the bichirs, my cuban pair that I had in another tank, and a smaller w/c female amphilo sagittae.
So far everyone in the 240 is doing great, and the amphilo sags have a clutch of eggs they are guarding, but they are day by day turning white.. Kinda wondering if the male is infertile?? They are both w/c and I bought them from Rapps. This is the second clutch each with a different female in which they aren't fertile.. Would a male guard eggs that he didn't fertilize?
I'm thinking about moving my small 5" FH into the 240 to calm his aggression issue, but I haven't gotten around to it. I want to make sure I can keep an eye on him for a few days before I do that.. so maybe on a friday I will do that. OR, I might just leave him in his 75. I just wish he would grow faster!!!! lol.
I'm currently growing out 2 batches of Carpintis fry that my breeding pair has had. They are growing fast, and I'm hoping they look just as amazing as their parents. I also have a breeding pair of platinum convicts, and wc honduran red points in which both pairs have fry as well. I'm letting them do their own thing right now until I can get them each into seperate tanks.
I've not bought any fish other than koi or small fish for my planted tank in a few months.. so yesterday, we went to the pet place in Lancaster. Back in June, they had brought in a 12"+ Ansorgii Bichir. And he's beefy.. but, they had him marked at a whopping $250!!! Well, apparently they got tired of him being in their tank.. they had him marked off to 70%.. that's $75!!! So, let's just say he's sitting in my 240 like a bump on a log with all my others! I love him! He's right behind my 20" Ornate when it comes to size.
I have upped my turtle count, as I have decided to open my house to unfortunate turtles who are kept in tanks, or are no longer wanted.. I currently have 13 adult rescued turtles. Diamondback terrapins, red eared sliders, false map turtles, yellow belly slider, cumberland slider, and florida red belly cooter. And a koi also lives with them. They surprisingly don't bother the koi, which I am glad about because I'm really trying to figure out the koi's condition. He's got waxy blobs all over him. He's had it since I got him, and it's never affected the other fish, but now it's spread to his entire body.. maybe it's going to be an official carp pox ID.
I also have 3 new pet rats. I had rats when I was a kid, so I thought I would get a few. They are amazing, and are VERY smart... especially if you have froot loops.
And the last update portion here is about my planted tank...
I have a 30 gallon long planted tank.. I've never had luck with plants, but this is doing well. It's got 4 female bettas, 2 small angel fish, 2 cherry barbs, neon tetras, cardinal tetras, golden barbs, silver flying foxes, a silver flagtail, an upside down catfish, 3 .5" oto cats, and numerous snails. When I first started this tank, I had a blue male betta and a female betta.. then I added the tetras. As soon as I added the tetras, the male bettas mouth turned white, he started gasping, and with in 2 hours he was dead.. but it wasn't from being picked on or anything, and all other fish are fine.. so what I ended up doing was going out and getting a red male betta.. he was fine with all the fish, except until yesterday.. yesterday I added a small angel fish (it's the second one), and the 3 oto cats. With in 2 hours, his mouth was white and he was breathing heavy, and this morning he was dead. I'm not understanding why the males are dying after I add new fish.. the other fish are all fine. Is this some sort of stress related thing, or territorial issue?
But anywho... that's enough update for me.
PS- I missed you guys a ton!!!
