:headbang2Just began to set up my mudskipper tank.
Planning on getting about 5 indian skippers and a couple fiddler crabs.
Got some photos of the tank, wondering if anyone would give some suggestions about how I should decorate. The tank is a 36g bow front.

You can't really see the sloping of the sand in the pictures, but its about 3-4 inches high. :)

Any suggestions?

Also, sorry about the quality of the photos. I haven't quite figured out how to work out my camera

Geting there cant wiat to see when it is done. Get real plants will look 10X better.

I was thinking mangroves. Just dont know what type of lighting they need or the space they need to grow.

I need to wait til tomorrow anyway to get some salt mix from petsmart.

Alright, so Ive done the water now.
I was just worrying about the filter. For mudskippers, what type of filtration do they need? Ive read humidity is more important that filtration, but they are quite messy, so I think I would need a decent canister filter. Just wondering. Any other options?

Ah alright, would a sponge filter be adequate?

Its only two gallons of water but its like two inches high

i was wondering is the gravel neccasary in order to have real plants cause i use sand but i would like to add some real plants to my 155G tank

A guy on aquariacentral.com told me he uses a Elite minifilters for all his half land/water stuff...
Here's a nice set up that I am going to try and duplicate with a 40g breeder hopefully in the future http://badmanstropicalfish.com/palud...ludarium3.html I really liked the ideas there. And I also started a thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320901 but haven't yet started the tank, I have been really contemplating how I want to do the tank and if it's not A+ work then I don't want it;)...
I really liked this guys tank http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=211758 and it's the one that really got me wanting to do one, he's using mangroves also. He's on aquariacentral.com you might find more information for mudskippers on there as opposed to here;) join up! Many people there keep skippies!

Im not sure about the plants. Sorry.

Ahh wow thats a good layout. I've seen that tank before. Thats actually the one that made me want to get mudskippers

Ok. Question. I read something about mudskippers (didn't give exact species...Just mudskippers) need at least 3-4 inches of water.
Is this true?
I have about 2 inches maybe, but it covers a pretty large area. Im guessing it said they need that much to fully submerge, maybe talking about the larger african or atlantic versions.

Anyway, I have the water in. Placed a couple flat rocks protruding from the water area onto the land.
I have a sponge filter in place. Planning on doing weekly water changes, just trying to get the tank as humid as possible. Any ideas on that?

Idk if I would do skips in anything less than 55gal.
Are you sure this is big enough?
a canister is gonna be easy overkill in 2" of water
i would think a Rena XP2 would take care of the mess
but larger systems are soo much easier to balance than small ones.
