Mudskippers and Frogs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1. Mixing species with such different habitat requirements is not going to happen in any system less than a few hectares in size.
2. Mudskippers need brackish water. Poison dart frogs will DIE if exposed to brackish.
3. Poison dart frogs are poisonous.

I could go on and on. Don't even try that mix.

First off poison dart frogs are not poisonous in captivity. They eat a specific diet of foods in the wild which allows them to secrete poison. But in captivity they cannot eat that specific diet and loose their poison altogether.

But that doesnt dismiss the fact that they die if exposed to salt

True, but all the other points apply. Dart frogs and mudskippers have very different requirements and cannot live comfortably in the same enclosure. Whether mudskippers would attempt to eat dart frogs, I don't know. If the frogs were small enough, probably.

Mixing terrestrials can be done, and I think it makes for a great setup when done properly. BUT you should always keep the different species separately first, and become intimately familiar with their requirements and temperaments before even thinking of combining them in one cage.

Second?

Would a mud skipper see a poison dart frog as food? Would it be a bad mix?

some poison dart frogs still secrete poison even without their diet, personal experience it was captive breed and i wanted to see if my pixie frog would eat it, of course it did and died.

Mud skippers and poison dart frogs do not mix different ecosystem, different part of the world. you could do it but you would need a hell of a lot of space and two different water sources etc. Good luck brotha :headbang2 and some people feed their mud skippers dwarf frogs... so there is a possibility of the mud skipper eating the poison dart frog

It would look cool but I say not a chance in the world.
1) Salt and PD frogs = fail.
2) My mudskippers tried to eat each other, the frog would just be something to play with before killing it.

Could you find a way to (water/air tight) seperate the enclosure so you could view them close together but not be together? If you decorated the tank the same on both side you might not even notice they are totally seperate. Just a thought.
