Hi All,

I have been reading a much about these guys and have owned a 10" female for about 4 months now. She is currently in a 180 and getting moved into a 520g tank. Though this is a large tank it is not extemely large. The tank dimensions are 96" x 42" x 30" (L x W x H).

I just recently happen to run across a 10" or so male (based on tail structure) that is for sale. I never considered a second on based on some of the bad news I have heard on here - the worst being Oddball (I think that is the name) of the jaw being ripped off one of his FRTs.

I have seen other places (youtube videos etc) that show multiples in the same tank but I would not consider these reliable sources to say the least.

Has anyone housed these together successfully? How long and what size individuals were together?

Now back to my tank size. I can not go any wider but I could potentially go one to two feet longer or taller. Obviously the larger the better but is this even worth considering since it is not much larger. I was at the Tennessee Aquarium this past summer to see their FRT display, I am unsure the exact size but it was not huge. I would guess about 10' long, 5-6' wide and 4' tall. It housed four fly river turtles together without any aggression I could see and not big injuries either. Very bare type setup without tons of hiding places or anything.

Any input would be appreciated.

Bump, guess this means nobody is keeping more then one in a tank successfully?

3 together in a 750. Yes, they all have battle wounds and are not perfect by any means but they tolerate each other. Been together for a little over a year and have about 13" shells.

If you want perfect shells, you keep them individually.

If you don't mind a few nips here and there and you have a LARGE tank, then it's certainly possible.

I don't think anyone knows the secret to housing them without serious aggression, but I would think if the turtles have plenty of distractions (such as being housed with other animals i.e. fish, turtle, etc. and plenty of decorations) that will keep their focus off of each other it might give you a better chance.

even so, I do not believe it in the long run, once animals are mature

Can those of you with large FRT tanks post a picture of the tank/setup. I am finishing up my 300 gallon tank now and would like ideas on what to add in terms of decorations/plants/logs/tank mates.

Thanks for the link but it does not look like you have much in terms of decoration in your huge tank.

Put in a good sized stone or log, a place it can leant to. They love sleeping that way.

Not much decor is needed.
