My gar seems to get spooked pretty easily,he sometimes rockets around in his tank injuring himself and then lays on his back slightly shaking until I turn him over w/ the net gently.

After the he sits and breathes heavily on the bottom under the filter. He doesn't have a broken/deformed back at all from what I can see.

All this however doesn't stop him from getting up and eating when food goes in.?

He doesn't care when his tail gets slightly sucked into the power filter?

And he also doesn't care if he bumps the side of the tank w/ his nose.?

Can anyone say both why he does these things, and how to prevent it/is it normal/what to do when it happens and what not to do when these things happen?

any info on water parameters?

tankmates are likely a source of stress as well.

possible to add a pic of the tank?

Few things will help, less light if you have the tank really bright. Also how much cover does he have? Mine like to sit in the overflow and they have actually blocked water flow by letting their tails get sucked against my overflows so I wouldn't worry about that but I would worry if he lays on his back
