Last night all was well every one was swimming and playing around. Today A brutal murder took place a decapitation I dare say. The victim 2" Tinfoil barb, Prime suspect 7-8" Red Oscar.

My wife feed the fish about 20 minutes ago, and about 10 minutes ago I came down to change the bag filter. I looked in on my LORT tank and seemed to be Light one gandalf the white, A quick glance reviled his headless corpse in the caves.

Sucks because thats my wifes fish she wanted, I am really shocked it was him and not the 1" jack depmsy or the 2" firemouth. When ever the rainbow shark would chase Gandalf he would run to the twin towers for protection which seemed to work. I never saw any other fish chase him, nor did I see any other real signs of aggression other then the first day I released them into the tank.

R.I.P Gandalf.

Sorry about your loss.

Your thread title made me think it was going to be something at a public aquarium. Should have known.

SO SAD FOR WHAT HAVE HAPPENED..
SORRY...

Sorry about the fish's sudden demise. Is Gandalf II coming in the foreseeable future?

Soory for the fish loss but unfotunately it was an accident waiting to happen I'm afraid.
Why would you keep a 2 " fish with an 8 inch Oscar ??

Yes I will replace the fish, this time shell out more and get one thats a little bigger. I placed them there as I have not seen any signs of aggression before, I still have 2 other fish that are less then 3" in the tank with no problems.

My wife thinks maybe it was the Texas that did it and not the Oscar. We never see the Oscar chase anyone but occasionally see the Texas shoe people out of his "Territory"

I told the last two little fish that they better man up and stick close to the caves, because its going to be to hard to fish them out. I did try after the accident, but they kept hidding in the caves.

I think its awesome that fish have a clear pecking order. The Oscar is the big man in the tank, then the Texas. No one chase the Oscar, the Oscar will some times chase the Texas if the Texas gets to close. Then I have the small rainbow shark who chases everyone except the Oscar and the Texas.
