One Pbass died last week. There's 10 of them in a 230 tank. They've all been doing fine until the "alpha male" decided to flex its muscle.

It started going around biting and bumping the others. It was at this point it set its eyes on a bigger Pbass.I didn't see it myself but the harassed Pbass reportedly went berserk hitting its head on the glass cover.

It started swimming erratically and would sometimes go 90 with its head in the sand. It's color changed but no bleeding wounds.I transferred it to another tank where it started swimming erratically, acrobatically and bizarrely. It scraped its chin on the blck gravel and started shredding itself. It breathed heavily and was just very disoriented.

I took pity on it and decided to end its misery. On its side, breathing heavily, not eating for 3 days, gone blind severly scarred and shredded I took it and sent it to fish heaven.

The 230 tank has gone quiet since.Alpha male still patrols the tank and nips at the others. The point of getting crowded has started.I need to break them up I think.

What makes it triply painful was that:

1.It was the 2nd to the biggest specimen in the tank
2.You see it slowly die in total disorientation
3.It was COMPLETELY HEALTHY prior to the fatal fight

I have heard of this happening before people call it "the death ram"

It is very rare for peacocks to get hurt fighting but with that kind of speed and power it happens

sorry for your loss

:cry:i hate to read stories like this...sorry for your loss

Current state of affairs:

Alpha male is still lording it over.Displaying his dark dorsal and patrolling the school aggressively. The others have all "complied" and have subjected under alpha male's command.

Do I leave them be?

Do I take alpha male out?

Are they about to mate?!

im having this same problem right now..not dead but agresion from the 'alpha male'. would be interested in hearing more about this from the pbass pros i only have 6
