I have heard that C. Citrinellum are easy to breed. I have a 9" male. Which I tried to breed with a 7" Red devil ( C. Labiatum ) female. She selected a site and dug a huge hole. The Midas seemed only mildly interested, eventually they began swimming together which was a good sign. Two days later, she was dead beaten to death!!! I figured the Midas was stiLL imature or he perfered rough sex? or he didn't care for inter-racial mixes!!! Well that was over a year ago, so now I'm gonna try again. I have borrowed a female Midas, and want to try again!!!
Has any1 tried the "incomplete divider" breeding method??? It was suggested to me. Separate the aquarium with a piece of glass, leaving a gap underneath. Slide a piece of slate under the divider. Then let the fish do their thing on their side!!!

Any1 try this??? Any suggestions???

I would put a divider with a hole in the middle just big enough for her to get through or at least a cave that only she can get in. I hace a 4" piece of PVC thatI keep in with my flowerhorn pair just incase she needs a quick place to hide out.

I had the same problem a few months ago. I too have a 9" male midas that I
tried to breed with a 7" female RD and they lived together for a few weeks and then he started to pull her fins off. I quickly removed her and purchased a 6" female midas. He was very rough with her as well until I placed a divider in the tank with just enough room for the female to go underneath. After about 2 weeks, I noticed that she stayed on the same side with the male, so I removed the divider. A few days later eggs were layed. They are now a breeding pair with a second batch of fry as we speak.
Hope this helps.
