My neighbours have just got 2 small musk turtles and put them in a tank. They have an area out of the water to bask in and the little fellas seem happy enough. Eventually they want to put some small fish in there too. I told them to hang fire with the fish for now due to the nitrogen cycle not yet up and running.
My question is will the nitrogen cycle start with the turtles and due to them not breathing the air through gills like fish, will the beginning of the cycle, ie ammonia and nitrite harm the turtles as it would with fish.
