Apparently, someone in Indonesia sold Hexanematichthys sagor, freshwater! This is a saltwater catfish. Is it possible for it to survive their whole life in a freshwater?

Amazing color and markings though.

I think likely like the silver sharks in most lfs. Do ok short term in freshwater but needs to be brackish or fill salt about half way full grown.

What happened if they stay in a freshwater? Since, I would assume the fish in the picture are bred in freshwater, would they die?

Do you want the fish to survive or to thrive? Sure there may be occurences of them surviving in freshwater, but they wont be as hardy or healthy. If you cant give a fish its proper environment then the fish really shouldnt be bought. Just my opinion.

They will get infections and eventually die.

What a shame. Looks good in tanks with its metallic color. No wonder there are no registered keepers on planet catfish.

I had three grow to very large size in my 240 but eventually all three died (month's apart) they just need salt when they reach a certain size.
