I finally decided what to stock my ten gallon with, and went and got them today as my store had the fish I've been looking at getting! An African butterfly fish!! And two cherry barbs... But I do have a question... I know 10 gal is small... It's mainly used as my sons nightlight, so I didn't need a big tank... Would adding a second butterfly be pushing it as far as over crowded concerns go?? Also, I added a floating live pl plants?ant, are there any reccomendations for.other live

10 gallons is too small for a single African Butteryfly fish, let along two IMO. They get to be ~ 5" in length and have longer fins. If you only have one, I would go with a 20L if it were me as that will give the fish more surface area to move around on. I would not recommend adding another Butterfly fish until you upgrade to larger tank - say a 40B.

Also, I am fairly certain that Cherry Barbs are schooling fish and do better in larger groups. A larger tank would let you get more of them, and the fish would be happier in the long run, especially if you keep adding plants.

If you really do not want a bigger tank, I'm sure other members here could give you some suitable suggestions for stocking your 10 gallon.

thanks... I figured it would as he's just a cute, tiny little thing... My son wants a few fish tanks... He is going to be like me and be an avid animal lover no matter what kind of animal it is, I think!

african butterflyfish are very inactive so i dont think a 10g is unreasonable to be honest. they just float and chill. make sure your tank is covered completely though and current not too strong. that like to drift along with floating vegetation in some spots. toss him some bugs once in a while if you can like crickets nothing posionus. also don't feed flakes get freeze dried/frozen meatier things if not softer pellets.

I buy feeder fish on a regular basis for my archer, and am going to start getting him crickets as well, so I should be able to do that no problem... I had to add a few feeder fish in to his tank as my archer has been over eating, and I didn't want them to die... so if he happens to get one of those guys, I'm cool with that as well... Ever since loosing my dragon and night gobys, all tanks stay covered always... I can't handle any more fish suicides.
