While I was deployed my old 125g sprung a leak and my wife had to get rid of my fish. So while I was over there, I ordered a whole bunch of new stuff for the tank with the plans to reseal it when I got home. I arrived home a few weeks ago and have sense been able to reseal the tank, install a 3d background, make my PVC overflow and plumb everything.

I am using a 29G as a sump with 4L of SeaChem Matrix and a DeepBlue Triton 4 1030GPH pump 2x 300W heaters and two air bubblers. The light is a 4ft Beamswork LED. I did the 4ft so there would be some dark spaces on the edges, I think it gives a really nice effect and a nice spot for the fish to hang out when they want some peace. The PVC Overflow is 1-1/2 in with a 1 inch return to a spray bar. I decided to use a Tom's Aqualifter for some added security for if the power was to go out. I have tested it many times simulating a power outage and it performed flawlessly.

As far as decor goes, I used about 80lbs of PFS, about 7 pieces of Mopani wood and a 20lb bag of "koi rocks" which are very pretty. The 3d background was from designs by nature, I believe it was the Congo background. I have seeded the tank with media from one of my other filters and I am also using Seachem Stability to help the process along. The stock as of right now is just five Gymnogeophagus Balzani. I should be receiving four Severum sp. Rotkeil tomorrow. Dunno what else would go good in there, I have plenty of filtration to cover the stock as is, but maybe some odds and ends would be nice. Any suggestions?

I have attached a picture from when I just filled it up, hence the dirty water.

You could really turn this into a 125 south, and central american cichlid community tank! I'm thinking Severums, Geos, Texans, Red Devils..etcc..

Nice set up. Belly crawlers, pikes from the saxatilis group and crenicichla johanni are good options for a 125. Most importantly, thank you for your service.

I have a bellycrawler with an adult rotkeil, juvie green severum, heckellii, and geophagus iporangensis. The iporangensis are a pair and can be nasty. The pike has no problems standing up to them but never started anything. I've never kept the others butvthey are what was recommended to me when I was looking into pike.

Do you believe the aggression level of a pike from those choices be fine with the tank mates?

I have a Ringtail pike (6-8") in my 125g
and
Venezuela Pike (12") in my 400g

Both are very aggressive towards fish larger or smaller. Will eat anything that fits in their mouths.
But they do provide entertainment chasing fish causing chaos.
