I have a total of thirteen. I have 10 Orinoco altums and 3 pterophyllum santa isabel.

Most cichlid tanks are not planted, and yours are nicely done with simplicity. How long have you set it up, and what plant do you have. When you say low tech, do you mean no dosing. low light and no algae control.

This tank has been up and running 2.5 years now. I've had the altums in there since November. I have Hygrophila corymbosa an Amazon sword and a red flame sword. The only thing I dose is Seachem excel twice a week and use root tabs for the swords. My lights are finnex planted plus. As far as algae control I don't really have a problem with it. I keep an albino bristlenose pleco in there and it will keep the rocks clean.
