+1 dark/blk background will make them dull and show more peppering and more bars. The light that you are using now makes the color pop look at the reds and the blues!
What kind of light are you using???

i believe its call "camera flash" running a few of those on my tank lol

CoraLife P/C 10,000K Daylight, Actinic Bluelight, and Lunar LED lights & yes there was a flash. lol
