Finally have it up and stocked, although not completely. For now the only filtration is a Fluval FX5. There are 14 fish in there and two females are already holding.

Very nice setup bro, just a friendly suggestion (I have similar setup for last couple yrs and many changes).............take out the 2 pieces of square holy sandstone (pink and orange) looking pieces on the right third of your tank ............they just dont look natural.............believe me i've had tons of diff decorations in my afro tank but in the end I now have lots and lots of red and grey slate piled nicely on each side...and a lrg fake driftwood & fake reddish plant setup in the middle.................the piled slate is like condos for your afros........:D :headbang2

What kink of sand mixture did you use ............i like it a lot...............any prob w/ canisters (impellers) and the sand???? I run 3 canisters and am thinking of switching to a sandy bottom my self............:) :)

Just an assortment, some sunshines, most came out of 'assorted africans' tanks.

The sand is 60 pounds of black and 100 pounds of white (actually light beige). Both are Estes' Marine Sand (which is actually checmically inert so it won't screw with pH or hardness or anything). I cut off most of the intake pipe on the FX5 so it would be far away from the sand. This is the first tank I have used sand in. It is more work to get ready since you have to presoak it. It dirties up the tank as well, so I wouldn't add it to an established tank that needs the filters running, they will just stir it up before it really settles in. I do plan on using sand more now.

Most were hiding. There are definitely 14 in there though, possibly more now since the female that was first holding eggs/fry is no longer holding.
