Figured I should start a journal of my planted tank. To start I started this year loving African Cichlids but got tired of all the aggressiveness. So after several changes I'm now planted. :D I've always had a green thumb but now I can bring it inside where I can enjoy it all winter long. Here is my setup:

Tank 150 Tall 48x24x30- Kind of a pain to work in but with the long tools its not to bad.

Filtration- CPR SYS 3000 sump with additional 20 gal res attached.

Lighting 4 150 watt MH with 6500K bulbs. (Anyone using the 8000K ADA one got pictures of the 8k or the 8k Green?)

CO2 is a Rex Griggs Best Damn Regulator with 5lb tank 45" Reactor 1" PVC back to tank with 3/4" Loc Line fittings. I'm getting an adaptor to 1/2" Loc Line and getting 2 Spray bars for more even tank coverage.

Pretty nice set-up. I like the lighting system a lot. Are you running co2? If so, how does the additional oxygenation from the wet-dry effect the co2 levels? The plant selection looks good, but the one red rock on the left side seems to direct the eye right to it. You might want to consider removing it or repositioning it... unless you are trying to direct the eye there. JMO

I inject CO2 24/7 I need to find a replacement for the Red rock but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for yet. I have my Wet/ Dry 85% cover so not to much loss it evens out I keep my tank around 6.9-7 by my milwuakee monitor and my drop checker keeps a nice green color probably about 20-25 ppm co2 content. I also dose Rex Griggs fertilizers 6 days a week and run a drip system changing around 1 gph 24/7.

Nice set up! Can't wait to see pictures when the plants set in.
You're going to have aloooot of platys very soon and very often.

What kind of sand is that in the first picture? I've been looking for really white sand for my next tank.

Sand is Silica Sand from the local Menards. Cost was $5 for 50 lbs.
