I bought this tank and got it setup to use for my biggest cichlids I currently have. The fish have been in the tank for a week now since it has finished cycling.
Current stock:
1- A. Rivulatus- 3” - 3 1/4”
1- A. Nigrofasciatus- 1.5” male
6- H. Cyanoguttatus & Carpinti- Largest 3” mixed sex
I dont know how many Cyano I have if any. I bought 3 cyano and 5 carpinti at the same time. The carpinti are suppose to be farm raised and the cyano are suppose to be from northern mexico. Once in the tank they all looked the same. Who knows if they are truly wild caught or kept separated properly. If I get a nice male out of the bunch im good with whatever its dna would say. I feel like I need to add more driftwood but I am looking for the right piece or pieces. So far they all get along good with no real aggression. They just squable over who gets to eat first. That may change as the “texas” puts on some size.137955113795521379553

You say the Cynos were collected from northern Mexico, do you know where? Its gonna be interesting seeing how they grow and change with time.

Unfortunately that was the only description so no idea of exact location. Heres a couple more pics.

This is the largest one at about 4” I bought them 2 months ago and this one was 1.5 - 2” at that time. So it gained 1” a month and was the fastest growing of the bunch. 1380381
Largest one on the right second largest on the left.

Another pic of the 2nd largest.

This is the smallest one at about 3”.

I initially thought the largest one was going to be a cyano since it was the only one that appeared to have small golden colored spots and it was growing very fast. Now at 4” the spots are larger and have blue tones to them. At this point I dont think any are cyano. Im also undecided about the largest ones sex. It looks like it has a male vent thats very pointed. I guess I will see as it grows.

A couple pics of my JD thats in this tank. This is the most aggressive JD I have ever had. All my other JD’S would hold their own and not really run but never went after the other fish. This JD rules this tank so far and will take very aggressive swipes at the others if he gets annoyed or just wants to get the point across that hes the boss.

It's always nice to see a common fish in such good condition. A lot of the usual cichlids are taken for granted and not given the care they deserve to truly reach their potential. This is a very nice J.D.

Thank you. Jacks are one of my all time favorites. I cant imagine having a tank and no JD. This ones still young and has allot of growing to do but so far I really like him.

All the fish in this tank are doing good. Im going to add a couple large pieces of drift wood and change the rocks around a little.

7 month update:
The JD is doing good. Hes growing good and still the tank boss. The tank currently has the JD, Convict, 2 young jags temporarily and the H. Carpinti/ Cayano. The JD is 6” maybe slightly longer. The largest Jag is apprx the same length maybe a hair longer. The carpinti/ cyano is roughly 6” as well. I say H. carpinti/ cyano cause I dont know which it is or if its a mix.
A few pics of the JD and H. Carpinti/cyano.
JD first

Pics of the H. Carpinti/ cyano. What about the sex of this fish? Anyone care to give an opinion? Does this fish look like its either carpintis or cyano or most likely a mix?

My guess is male based on fins and body structure but I am far from an expert. What do you think?
