The drawing looks fine, apart from the .bmp file size that will put of anyone with a dialup connection.

But it doesn't show what support you are building in for the tank. You are looking at supporting around 3/4 ton of water, glass and rocks. Now thats perfectly practical with 4x2s and plywood, but you need to get it braced properly.

Looking at your design, you can have 5 upright members over the length of the cabinet.. thats good. Use solid timber as the uprights to support the weight and plywood as bracing on the back and sides. The solid timber will hold the weight, the plywood on the back and sides stops it wracking up like a pack of cards.

If your Dad is into furniture building he will understand what I am saying. Plywood and solid timber can build a VERY strong base :D

Cheers

my suggestion would be to try and make it so you can access under the stand easier.. maybe making four doors or just two larger ones.. it is a pain in the neck, (REALLY) to get under your tank and work sometimes..

thanks with all the input.
sorry guys bout the pic its my first time and thanks mosthated for posting it.
as for the supports im building a frame out of either 4x1.5 or 4x2 with 2 uprights on the front either side of the doors and 4 or 5 uprights at the back i havent decided yet. the back will be enclosed with ply wood and the sides will look like the front minus the doors of course.
for the doors, the opening will be 80cm which gives me plenty of space cause im only having a sump inside and a place for food n stuff.

thanks again for all the input. its much appreciated
