this is a bad cell pic,
dovii.jpg

he is in a 125 gallon tank displayed in my tattoo shop,he was super agrro when i got him, constantly biting and banging the glass.he has since calmed down with all the traffic, and follows customers when they walk past.He is my first large cichlid though and i have a few questions, what is the optimal thing to feed him?currently chowing on occasional goldfish and large cichlid pellets, and i wanna make sure he is fed correctly.
also is it possible to add a female?
thanks in advance,
andy

Would really look to get him in a bigger tank (only saying what others will im afraid)

But in saying that he looks fantastic. Really bulky looking boy.

Food wise. I feed mine Hikari pellet food which is great quality, Massivore foods are excellent as well at that size. Prawns, lance fish, earth worms for protein.

But pellets should be the staple IMO.

Too small for a female im afraid, need to double the tank size.

Nice dovii. Perfect fish to keep in a tattoo shop!

I wouldn't feed him any goldfish; just stick to the large pellets, and maybe some dried krill.

yeah def need a bigger tank before you can add a female, she would get shredded by him in that tank, and like others have a said a good pellet is the best staple diet he can be on, i would definitely not give him anymore goldfish, they are very unhealthy for him and also carry a high risk of transferring parasites to your guy. good treats are pretty much any kind of insect, shrimp, krill, etc

Well I would really like to see a good picture. He looks great.

I feed mine Hikari Bio Gold +, Hikari Massivore delight, shrimp and krill for treats. He has stopped nailing the Massivore so I am going to try another pellet to add to his diet.

Add a female but buy the acrylic cut to fit and drill holes in it. The white egg crates would break and cut you fish up.

If not then we'll see how fast you can break up locking Doviis. LOL, I had my buddy punch his Pitbulls in the head before and they still didn't let go.

yeah i actually knew he needed a bigger tank,he was donated to the shop at about 13.5" and i figure i would have to upgrade.i will get some better pics,he has definitely become a shop fave.i will discontinue goldfish and stick to the pellets.i originally had three nice sized catfish in the tank as well, but he made short work of them.i have been feeding the biogold pellets thinking i may try the massivores now..
thanks for replies, and i will probably wait till he has a bigger enclosure before adding a female,he gets lots of dubia roach nymphs, earthworms, and the occasional cricket as treats.definitely a pleasure to own.
