Ok, I just joined so I could ask some questions, so bear with me. I have been keeping African cichlids for about 10 years in a 90G tank, and now I am ready to upgrade. I did some reading and bought a few things this summer while on sale. Last weekend, I got some lumber and started to build the shell. My question is will this support a 180 gallon tank?

I used 2x6's for the top because I didn't want a center brace due to the sump.
I did place a front brace off center (2/3 location), I used a pocket hole jig and wood glue for the support
There are 2 vertical braces in the back, again with the glue and pocket screws

It will be wrapped in 1/2" birch plywood for support and aesthetics (stain).

Any comments?

Looks good to me but I'm not an expert on bigger tank stands. I will be building my 150g stand tomorrow (Its on concrete blocks now). But if it were me I would add at least 3 braces on the top between the two 6' 2x6s. If that makes sense.

tank a rimmed tank? if it is should be fine to me, the rap will tighten it up. if not a rimed tank then dealing with a dif animal.

Looks sturdier than mine, I used 2x4 as top and bottom frame. Mine is tied into my wall joist too. I didn't wrap, just triangle corner pieces.

Looks totally solid. My only reservation would be the two 2X4 side cross brace at both ends thats laying flat on the floor. You won't be able to get to water that spills/run under there. Potential mold problem.

Thanks for all the responses. I was planning on adding additional bracing on the top. I bought some plywood and starting wrapping the stand today. Getting everything to line all up is tough and a LOT of wood glue! I will post some more pics soon.
