Just kidding but he probaly does have brain damage. Because when I feed him crickets, freeze dried krill, feeder fish he's fine. But when I feed him frogs, the occasional mouse or Market prawns he'll go straight to the bottom of tank and shoot straight up grab the frog, shrimp or mouse and crash into the glass lid with so much force that I think I will break the glass or get brain damage or kill himself!!!! I already I have lowered the water. He has a good 6 inches between him and the lid. Should I stop feeding him the stuff that makes him crash into the lid????

Let's see...the question is, should you stop doing something that could possibly injure or kill your fish?

you seriously don't know the answer to this question

You need to rethink your set up...
Your fish WANTS to jump way up in the air
it is natural for him
YOU have thoughtfully put a tight lid on the tank
so he won't fall out...
it will eventually kill him or he will break it...
so...
what your fish needs is a shallow tank
with a flexible (tight mesh net material) cover
so that he CAN jump
without hurting himself

Thanks Thats all I wanted was a smart straight to the point intellient answer instead of some people acting liking they have something stuck up there........
Great advice on how to fix this problem. But I tried a little clip attached to the suction cup. I just clip the shrimp and stick it to the side. Now he can eat the shrimp just below the surface. He gentley grabs it now.

Well if he does anymore the mesh netting is a great idea, Thanks

I used screen left over from my buddy screening-in his porch. It works really well, as my aro is still in the tub and uninjured. When I stapled the screen to the frame I didn't pull it too tight so it has some give to it. You could easily build one for any size tank.

Great job, I really like your pic, how did you make that out of a old screen door? What do you use to make sure it stays down???

it's not an old door...I built a frame out of wood. It weighs quite a bit, so no need to put anything on top. It's hinged to frame of the whole tub. look...

dude, watch out. my first aro died from brain damage or something. it jumped and hit tha lid really hard. couple hours later it was half dead, head sticking up and body down and just floating rarely breathing.
