Picked this up today. Its about 7". Got it at Tropic-Aquatics in Lombard, IL. They had 2 and the employee said that both were sick. Got it for 59.99 then they gave me a 20% off for Labor day sale. This one was was hiding at the bottom behind the plants at the store. Has what it seems to me is some tail rot towards the bottom. They said it was sick but dont know whats wrong. but here is some pics that is now in my 29 gal as my hospital tank as my 55 gal is being cycled right now. As you see that he is hanging around the top of the tank and middle. I put one piece of krill in there and ate it but did not see the Aro eat it.

My parameters for this tank the aro is in:
PH: 7.4
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 20 ppm

Tank has been established/cycled for 1 month already and has a senegal in it also. Will move the Aro into the 55 gal as soon as it gets cycled. What do you guys think? Any advice for a 1st time Aro owner. Im very happy that i brought him back with me.

i think a 55 gal is way to small, and its really nice fish, they sell them that small for 25$ by my house. i think the required tank size is even over 150g at full maturity?

Hi That a nice Aro
Let the Aro rest :) And Aro
will be eating at no time :D
Um Boost up temp and put some salt?
But lets see what they says :P
Um whats the measurement for tank?

Lookin' good!

One bit of advice is that if you aren't aware of how large these get, do some research on the subject, and be sure you will have the means to provide enough space for this guy.

Congrats on the pickup.

Yah the temp is at 82 right now. They said its been eating freeze dried krill. So i bought a can that. Yah i know i got it at that price. When i was in California last week i was looking around Los angeles LFS and they were in $25 to $40 dollar range. Its kinda hard here in Illinois to find a good LFS. This is the cheapest ive found. Every where was like $100 for the same size.

Yes i am aware and did alot of research of there growth rate. The reason for the 55 was i got the tank for free off craigslist. So i might as well set it up. But i will be looking into getting a much larger tank in the future for this Aro.
Heres the pics of the 55 gal.

But thanks guys for the Advice. I greatly appreciate it so much. And hopes that the Aro will be ok.

That silver aro will be 24" within a year. Better start looking for a 180g now, or just skip and go right to an 8' x 30" 300 gallon tank.

Why did you pick the aro that was hiding on the bottom? That is a sign of stress.

Well the other aro the employee said it was the sickest of the 2. So i chose this one. The other one had a blackish lump on the side of its body also.

I understand the growth rate on the Arowana and I will be looking into purchasing a much bigger tank in the near future for this Aro.

As right now. i had just put in some freeze dried worms and the Aro is liking them.

Just b/c you got the lesser sick silver out of the two doesn't mean you got the good one. You still bought a sick silver. I mean for $60, you should have gotten a healthy silver. Either ways good luck, get him healthy then upgrade tanks.

i agree with your statement. Other LFS were selling same size aro for $100 here in illinois. So this was the best deal that i can find. But yes that is my goal to get the ARo healthy and give it a larger tank. Thanks for your input.
