hey all!

i was feeding both my Oscars today some pellets and decided to try to cut a cube of blood worms in half for them (first time trying this) and after they thawed i held it very still in the water and they both came and nibbled on it!

this is so crazy, mostly because they're both about 2.5" and i got one of them the past friday, and the other the past saturday. is this normal or are they realy comfortable?

so anyways, if they're both so small, what really can i feed them other than minnows (which i dont really like) and the little pellets? i really want to try to get them more comfortable with hand-feeding.

Good water params and healthy diet should be fine. Mine actually jumped and took food from my hand within the first week I had him (check my thread "New Oscar"). They normally adapt pretty well as they are not picky fish.

try krill. mine now digs them

will do!

there is a GREAT butcher shop within 10 minutes of me. Very high quality stuff. is there anything from there that i could get and maybe cut into tiny chunks? i was thinking maybe shrimp or something?

Shrimp, I feed pieces of Tilapia fillet (relatively cheap fish), and beef heart are 3 off hand that come to mind. I work in a Meat/Seafood Dept, my fish are fed very well off lean scraps, though they'll probably develop hypertension from all the meat:nilly:

Dont ever underestimate how smart/retarded these guys can be, my O can nearly jump his own body length (12'') vertically its funny and all, but spells disaster and makes Water changes a pain in the crack coz you never know when he's gonna shamu!!!! The better sort of trick to teach your oscar is to mouth fight with you!!!

lol my dempsey only jumps when theres food he will get ready to jump examine my finger to see if there is food and if there isnt he will wait for my to get food. he splashes water into my mouth occasionally :D

Float a ping pong ball on the water and play catch with your Oscars :). I taught mines to do that, but I'm sure it was just his never ending need to feed :).

haha all this sounds so awesome!

my tiger oscar is VERY friendly and not shy at all, i even have got to pet him, but my albino tiger is so shy. But he actually came out and wasnt skittish at all today!
